" Meander is both interesting and important. It is a portal into the future of river protection and a welcoming must read for anyone who wishes to join the fray." - Elaine Marsh, Cofounder of Friends of the Crooked River (the Cuyahoga) It is a thorough chronical of Great Lakes activism, policy, and issues (solved, festering, and emerging). All who have worked on behalf of water will become immersed in Wooster's dialogue with her own creeks, rivers, and lakes and find there validation for their own efforts. It is a scientific and historic love story. The scope of her narrative centers in the value of the living river's vitality to our own quality of life, health, and spirit. Margaret Wooster stretches a diversity of disciplines ranging from planetary geology to hydromorphology, from federal and state policymaking to town hall deliberations, from the macroeconomics of water to the irreplaceable financial value of local open space and melds them all together into her irrefutable vision that rivers are a key pillar of community. ![]() " Meander is written in captivating personal prose by a mature activist, river scientist, and storyteller. "Making room for rivers-and for a lot of other things we've tried to improve and accelerate and modernize-is a good rallying cry for our beleaguered planet this book will cheer you, and spur you on!" - Bill McKibben, author of Falter: Has the Human Game Begun to Play Itself Out? "Among the few individuals left from the golden era of modern-day environmentalism to write about book about the need to protect and preserve our Great Lakes rivers, who better to do it than Margaret Wooster." - Niagara At Large "Wooster offers a voice of hope, chronicling successes in improving a local watershed while offering suggestions applicable to readers across a much wider geography." - CHOICE Wooster leaves us with the idea that it is up to us, the people who live along these flows and in their watersheds, to learn as much as we can about these connections and to use our local authorities to "make room for rivers" and protect our planet's circulatory system for future generations. While our management policies often sever them, these connections are key to Buffalo Creek and Great Lakes recovery and resilience. The ecosystem value of physical integrity-or connectivity between upstream and down, surface flow to aquifer, river to land was never fully unpacked. Wooster explores how, on the Niagara Frontier especially, traditional ecological knowledge and Indigenous values were suppressed by colonial rules of settlement. She then turns to Buffalo Creek to teach us how the Great Lakes work-from a "hill made of water" to a cut-off oxbow to a buried delta transitioning from two centuries of industrialization. Drawing on her own experience as a watershed planner, teacher, and Great Lakes activist, Margaret Wooster describes the language, history, and failures of many of our water management policies. Meander tells the story of the Great Lakes region's experiment in restoring a complicated natural system of flowing water.

Additionally, while I was there one of the cooks walked out back to the deck… dude could use a new set of chef whites. Negative: I’m not going to pull any punches, the place could use a cleaning. If you want to «dine in» this is the only seating, and I believe they share the deck with the bar next door. There’s also a small deck out back with tables and chairs. It was enough for me and my two young sons, and they were hot and salty and crispy and delicious. I also ordered a small portion of french fries. The burgers are excellent and have a nice char broiled flavor. Positive: The first thing I want to mention is the food. We were at a park so I checked Unilocal.Only being about a mile away from the Bmore Burger Stack, I thought I’d try it. It was a totally random Saturday and my young sons wanted to go out for cheeseburgers. All this to simply report that our neighborhood has some really neat hideaways owned by locals. I’m not out this way often, but def if I’m driving by, I’m stopping. Would go with something else if you really need a side, but the sandwich is all you really need. I appreciated the volume and effort, but they weren’t all that good, somewhat dry, hard, but not crispy on the outside and dense on the inside. I got the small side of fries (it was a brown paper lunch bag full of hand cut white potato fries. My friend had the pit beef sandwich, medium rare, it was beautiful rosy pink and she said the best pit beef she’s had in Baltimore (and she grew up here). Be forewarned, there’s juice everywhere, and the bun eventually just gives up, unless you eat fast enough. Patty was beefy and juicy coarse ground chuck. The whole thing was larger than my head (and I ate the whole damn thing). patty topped with basically another whole sandwich’s worth of pit ham. Got the Bmore Ham Burgerler, it was phenomenal. There’s some patio tables arranged around an ashtray urn and it gets pretty smokey back there, plus you’re surrounded by basically industrial trash. For all my complaining here, I saw a jump in my income after I bought 3d Coat (unicorns, dragons, ball joint dolls, burlap dolls and ghosts) and another, larger one after I bought Zbrush (starting with Singers of Chzor). On the whole, if you ever want to do seamless skins for creatures, and can get both of these, do it immediately. There's a lot less on 3d Coat, bar some tutorials on its web site. ![]() The most helpful will be in the form of forum posts, because that's where you will find the advice that is in answer to questions starting with "how do I" and not "everything about the X tool." Youtube has some useful free tuts as well in addition to the huge library of them available free on Zbrush's site. There's just a LOT of documentation on Zbrush online. 3d Coat can't do anything like as much, but what you can do, you can do quickly and without having to redo it twelve times because the program kept crashing right at the moment of saving your tool progress. Zbrush is an extremely bizarre and fiddly interface, giving you the ability to create amazing things and then demanding you jump through a series of flaming hoops in order to do so. Zbrush does not regard resolution of the texture and resolution of the mesh as different concepts right up until the instant of export, so subdividing up to millions of polygons is more or less mandatory unless you like squinting at an ugly blur.Īlmost nothing beats 3d Coat in this area. On the other hand, it's actually possible to paint a detailed diffuse at base resolution in 3d Coat. ![]() Zbrush does tend to leak memory and then crash and lose work when I've been using it for six or more hours, so there's that, but I think probably every 3d program does that. It's much clearer how to do this in Zbrush, and Zbrush also is capable of letting you sculpt at a few million polys on a decent system, which I'm not sure 3d Coat can actually even do without crashing. If you're going to get into Zbrush expect to receive a lot of advice on the lines of "go back to step 1 and then." I would really like to be corrected on this, but searching Zbrush forums so far has produced a number of helpful "you should have done the green backdrop thing back at step one" suggestions. I hope you enjoy manually erasing the edges of your elaborately drawn fur layer. Oh, did you forget to fill in a bright neon green in order to create your alpha channel later? That's too bad, because Zbrush doesn't see a transparency there and you can't go back and add one in later. Zbrush sits around twiddling its thumbs and then exports your layer onto a white backdrop. I have yet to find a way to make 3d Coat do this because it wants to set up a sharp cliff-edge at the edge of every brush if I leave Depth on even slightly.ģd Coat is the winner here, because one, it sets up layers just like a 2D program, and two, it actually registers alpha channels when you don't paint a full opacity onto a layer. It's also vastly easier to simultaneously paint a detailed displacement and a diffuse texture. General handling of brushes is a bit more straightforward and doesn't require you to squint at a "depth" modifier that screws up your concept of displacement (that always drives me crazy in 3dCoat). Zbrush has it all over 3d Coat, with the ability to set up alphas separate from brushes adding tremendous additional versatility. 3d Coat's saves are a more normal affair as 3d programs I've used go. This is one of the lovely things that makes Zbrush such a joy to work with because of its *ahem* unique *ahem* interface, and I say that as a long-term user of Blender, which wears its interface as Jabba the Hut would wear a tiny top hat. Both of them are also lying, because they're going to save about ten minutes before the crash, before you actually did half of what it is now erasing. They both claim to save your progress before doing so. As a beginner you may need to start with 3d Coat, make some money, and then add Zbrush later (as I did), since 3d Coat costs about half as much. I think it will become clear why I think owning both is a good idea. This is just what I've noticed with what I've been using them for (mainly texturing). For one thing, I've never really tried to sculpt new geometry in 3d Coat. This won't be a complete comparison by any means. ![]() The "log-out" function has been removed, with the only method of escape involving beating all of Aincrad's one hundred increasingly difficult levels. And it is an honor to work with William Gaunt, who is so passionate about weaving and Sunny Bank Mills’ wonderful heritage.” Venue: Sunny Bank Mills, off Farsley Town StreetĪgnis, who studied at the Cumbria Institute of the Arts and Goldsmiths College, London, added: “Teaching weaving in the setting of a traditional Yorkshire textile mill is an incredible privilege. At the end, the weavers can take home their own assortment of patterns along with a finished final project of their choice.” “In addition to group lessons and demonstrations, weavers receive an individual for help and support every week. The last few weeks are dedicated to weaving your own final project, which can be a table runner, a wall hanging or a cushion cover. “In the first four weeks, you spin around the looms, explore different weaving structures, and get to know your loom at the same time. “The six looms will be set up and ready for action, with a neutral gray warp giving more time to focus on the weaving,” Agnis said WLD. So as I said elsewhere, maybe we have an If, then relationship between END and each Mainstat that gives the player something unique that helps define the playstyle. I am not against giving Rangers better blocking somehow, though, as I feel it makes thematic sense. It's being a primary and secondary stat at the same time. In addition, I feel as though Ranged by definition feels like getting the first hit in is going to happen more often than not, so what if at Least 100 proc bows get an initiative bonus?Īs for blocking, IMO as long as dexterity provides any type of universal blocking, it will be a primary reason to train it over Strength. 75, what if you could have a Dex-based Lucky Strike like damage add-on called Precision Hit that is bringing the overall ADPT up closer to Melee damage, and maybe you could either make this a separate feature than lucky strikes and LS can still occur with or w/o Precision hit, or you rename Lucky Strikes to Precision Hit and just give ranged weapons a different formulation. Maybe, to piggyback off your idea, and throw in mine, maybe we make Ranged damage extremely "random". This idea also changed lucky strikes for the bows similarly to frostval crown, so it reduced the rate to 5% but increased the damage to 1.5. I once made a suggestion on 100 proc bows and in that, I renamed lucky strikes using 100 proc bows to "Precision Hit". With partial investment, you reach the average block rate of 15%, plus/minus 5% depending on your build. Maxing out Dexterity would provide another 10%. In keeping with the average 15% block rate, here's what I'm suggesting:ġ0% of those 15 would be moved to MainStat - you violently shove your foe, making them miss, or you parry the attack with grace and elegance, or you quickly weave a defensive ward. Presuming a partial investment seems like a better strategy, in that it rewards investing in the right stats instead of punishing people for diversifying. I'd like to move away from the default idea that you have maximum stat-based blocking. ![]() I'm simply using 75% and 100% melee because that's what people are used to. It's possible to go 80% base with 95% conditional damage, or 60% base with 115% conditional, or anything else, really. Each ranged hit gains a stacking damage bonus if the last hit connected, with a miss resetting the effect. The idea is to disrupt their footing, leaving the monster enable to defend against you as effectively. Monster can shake it off at the start of each turn - but while the status is present, you deal melee-level damage against it. ![]() ![]() Attacks inflict status like 'On Back Foot' (name subject to change). The basic idea is not that you hit harder, but that you slip past your foe's guard to hit where it hurts. There are several ways I can see it happening: The obvious solution here is to give Dexterity low damage originally (maybe 75% like Int?) and a conditional damage boost that can bring it up to melee levels. Whichever way I turn it, giving ranged weapons the same damage as melee ones would be both unbalanced and detrimental to the idea of having a distinct identity. When you focus on Dexterity? You become better at outmaneuvering your foes. When you increase your Intellect, you gain a deeper understanding of spell mechanics and formulae. When you invest in Strength, you start hitting harder. So, how can we make Rangers (FD and FO) functionally different from warriors? In my opinion, we should go back to the drawing board, taking a step back from math and focusing on what Dexterity is. With the week's release out, debates over giving Dex a distinct identity should probably be moved to another thread, so I figured I might as well start it up. ![]() When it comes specifically to your hands, you can experience numerous unpleasant side effects from cell phone radiation, including itchy skin, skin rashes, and even a burning sensation on the palms of your hands. ![]() Muscle pain in the hands, wrists, and arms. ![]() Other symptoms of cell phone radiation exposure include: Radiation from cell phones can cause symptoms that you may seem unrelated at the surface, including but not limited to hand pain. One of the things that makes cell phone radiation so dangerous is the fact that it comes so close to your body – unlike things such as X-rays, which are usually several feet away. Though certainly a different type of radiation, the cumulative effect is the same with your cell phone. On the other hand, if you were to get an X-ray every week or even every month, your odds of it being dangerous to you greatly increase. Cell Phone Radiation and Its Effects on Hands So short answer – yes, EMF & RF from your smartphone can cause discomfort in your hands, BUT I’m not so naïve as to say that’s the only cause. Ha!
